The flexibility of the foundations

The flexibility of the foundations

The entire area occupied by the gallery floor is covered by a false floor made of pine fiber (MDF), thirty centimeters from the ground, in which a circle is cut out that occupies almost the entire width of the room. The circular gap is covered by a lateral surface of curved plywood between the false floor and the real floor of the room, creating a sort of basin. A thin continuous opening at the base of this basin lets in a stream of light generated by a system of fluorescent tubes placed under the false floor. No other source of light illuminates the room. The gap is filled with artificial smoke circulating on the floor, creating waves and swirls: a slow, supple and fragile movement, influenced by the slightest current of air. This project attempts to image the impalpable of the relationship between the public and the work, not in the invisible, but in an immaterial, diffuse, gaseous character.
